THE VILLAGE
Groundbreaking director, writer and producer M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs), one of the most innovative and original filmmakers of our time, returns with the unforgettable thriller The Village. This ia a captivating tale is full of spine-tingling suspense and spellbinding tension.
With a stunning feature debut from Bryce Dallas Howard, The Village boasts phenomenal performances from a stellar cast that includes Oscar® nominees Joaquin Phoenix and Sigourney Weaver and Oscar® winners Adrien Brody and William Hurt. Grippingly executed, Shyamalan’s magic touch shines through in this atmospheric spooky thriller.
At first glance this late nineteenth century village seems picture perfect, with villagers living harmoniously in an idyllic setting. The idyll however, exists on a knife edge, as the villagers live in constant fear of creatures \"those we don't speak of\" who live in the surrounding woods. Despite the advice of town leader, Edward Walker (William Hurt) and his mother, Alice Hunt (Sigourney Weaver), curious and headstrong Lucius Hunt (Joaquin Phoenix) is desperate to step beyond the boundaries of the town and into the unknown to fetch medicine for someone in the village. Lucius’ quiet strength is matched only by Ivy Walker (Bryce Dallas Howard) a beautiful young blind woman with an unusual wisdom beyond her years. Her fearless nature and gift-like perception are beyond anything Lucius has ever known and the darkly thrilling storyline is lifted as we observe love blossoming between these two central characters. Both Lucius and the mischievous Noah Percy (Adrien Brody) admire Ivy passionately, though her heart only has room for one of them. Her devotion eventually leads her down a forbidden path where terrifying truths are revealed and the ominous presence of the unknown boils over into chaos for the village.
Bryce Dallas Howard is bewitching as the high-spirited blind girl Ivy Hunt, and plays the part with memorable charm and elegance. Joaquin Phoenix (Gladiator, Signs) excels as the innocent rebel, and the love story between Bryce and Joaquin is played with a shimmering delicacy that cuts to the heart.
This wonderfully spooky tale of intrigue is mysterious enough to infect your dreams.
