After a Spotted Jaguar Shark eats his partner and much-loved friend, Esteban du Plantier (Seymour Cassel), the world-renowned oceanographer and documentary maker, Steve Zissou played by Bill Murray (Lost in Translation), is on a quest for revenge. Whilst grappling with his loss, Zissou is joined by his supposed long-lost son, Ned Plimpton, played by Wes Anderson favourite Owen Wilson (Starsky & Hutch) and Cate Blanchett (The Aviator), who plays the beautiful journalist and life-long Zissou fan, Jane Winslett-Richardson. Zissou must deal with his new found fatherhood, lust and loss as he leads his team on an emotional journey through an amazing sub-aqua world of glowing, glittering sea creatures.

Story Synopsis
Internationally famous oceanographer Captain Steve Zissou and his crew \"Team Zissou\" set sail on an expedition to hunt down the mysterious, elusive Spotted Jaguar Shark that killed Zissou's partner and much loved friend, Esteban du Plantier (Seymour Cassel).
When Captain Zissou is joined by his supposed long-lost son, Ned Plimpton (Owen Wilson) and the beautiful journalist, Jane Winslett-Richardson (Cate Blanchett), assigned to write a profile of Zissou, things become even more unusual on-board. Steve Zissou must grapple with the loss of his partner, discovering he is a father and his jealousy of rival Alistair Hennessey's (Jeff Goldblum) all at once. When the ship drifts into treacherous waters they are attacked by pirates and Captain Zissou finds himself leading a rescue mission before they come face to face with the shark.
