Winning enthusiastic acclaim from critics and audiences alike at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival, this gem of a film will enchant you. Eccentric and entertaining, funny and touching - be the first to own Garden State on DVD from 2nd May 2005.
Zach Braff (Scrubs, Endsville) makes a remarkable directorial debut whilst also leading an impressive cast as Andrew Largeman, a pill popping, emotionally stunted twenty-something who decides to take on the world with a new found clarity. His kooky side-kick is Natalie Portman (Closer, Cold Mountain, Star Wars: Phantom Menace), a girl who is everything he isn't. Portman is utterly captivating as the curious and loveable Samantha, a pathological liar with a heart of gold. Peter Sarsgaard (Shattered Glass) also gives a fantastic supporting performance as Largeman's oddball friend Mark. Experienced veterans Ian Holm (The Aviator, The Day After Tomorrow) and Jean Smart (Sweet Home Alabama, I Heart Huckabees) complete the exceptional line up in this offbeat comedy.
Garden State is a tale of deep-rooted wounds and burning regrets, finding oneself and coming of age after years of hazy confusion. Its beautiful cinematography, fantastic soundtrack and phenomenal cast create a unique, enlightening and believable movie experience. Discover this charming tale on DVD from 2nd May 2005. Story Synopsis
Andrew 'Large' Largeman (Zach Braff) is self exiled from New Jersey after a freak accident left his mother a paraplegic and his father Gideon (Ian Holm) intent on burdening him with the blame. Working as a bit-part actor in LA, Andrew now drifts through life in a lithium induced stupor. The death of Large's mother forces him out of isolation and sees him return to the 'Garden State' after almost a decade away. Upon his return, he is thrown back into the life he ran away from and is forced into meeting errant friends including the idiosyncratic gravedigger Mark (Peter Sarsgaard) and finally facing his domineering father. A chance meeting with Sam (Natalie Portman), a free spirited compulsive liar threatens to awaken him from his numb state. Complications arise as he is suddenly exposed to happiness, love and other human emotions he's repressed for years.
